Miraculously I have managed to get a sneak viewing of the forthcoming big-budget ‘Bulletproof Monk’ starring Chow Yun-Fat and Seann Scott Williams, and I emerged feeling quite privileged.
Despite being a kung-fu action movie pitched at young teenage boys primarily, I, an ex-teenage female, found ‘Bulletproof Monk’ to be, in the most part, thoroughly entertaining.
It’s the story of a Monk-With-No-Name (Chow Yun-Fat) who was chosen to look after a scroll, containing text that, in the wrong hands, has the capacity for turning the world evil – and his quest to find a successor.
He encounters a roguish young man, Kar (Seann Scott Williams), in the subway and through a series of dramatic events, sees in him the potential for a brave and loyal Keeper of The Scroll.
‘Bulletproof Monk’ has, in my opinion, all the ingredients of a box office smash. It’s got the right balance of action, comedy, morality, good versus evil, and of course, a pinch of romance.
So, in spite of the plot being obvious and predictable I hope this film is a hit. After all isn’t this what we love about this genre? My reaction to the film was the same as I feel when spending a summer’s evening at the Funfair – it’s cheesy but you know what you’re getting before you go and when you get home you feel relief at still being able to have fun and behave as a kid! Plus, the children around you always enjoy being taken along for the ride!
‘Bulletproof Monk’ may not be an ‘Indiana Jones’ but it’s the best attempt at the genre I have seen for a long, long time.

Hey there.
I saw this about 2 months ago. It's truly appaling. It has a character called "fucktastic" I sh*t you not.
Remo Unarmed and Dangerous did everything this movie does but 5 times better and that was over a decade ago... And Remo Unarmed and Dangerous is a **** flick.
I think the above is some kind of studio ploy to ***** a ****** movie to film forums...

Hey Despin - not that I have any interest at all in seeing the above film (the title is enough of a put-off) but how do you manage to see every film 2 months before they're on general release?
AND - do you see EVERY film that is released?

Tha's very impressive/commendable - I thought my one cinema visit a week was good I know that you can learn from bad films too but I just wouldn't have the stomach for THAT much garbage. How can you take it?
But you do seem to see a lot of films 2 months before - are you Harry Knowles' favourite cousin or something?

Hey there.
I usualy go to the cinema about twice a week. Watch all three main releases on a friday then pick up the smaller movies later in the week. I'm going to see Intacto and Phone Booth (again) tommorow.
"I just wouldn't have the stomach for THAT much garbage. How can you take it?"
The way I see it is you dont know it's garbage untill you watch it.
I read reviews all the time but I never decide what movie I will watch because of them. I try and watch everything and then form my own opinions. I love the cinema and even the worst movies usualy have something good about them.
As for seeing movies early. There are lots of screenings/director Q&A'S going on all the time. You just need to keep your eyes and ears open.

Hey there.
I don't see every film 2 months before there on general release.
But I do watch pretty much EVERY new release...

Cool. I'm looking forward to Intacto - it sounds really good.
PS I take it you're very lucky and don't have to work on Fridays...
